Rovio has announced that the re-release of the original Angry Birds will be scrapped on Android and renamed on iOS due to “the game’s impact on our broader games portfolio”.

The company announced the change on Twitter, with Rovio Classics: Angry Birds being pulled from the Google Play Store today – less than a year after it was released last April.

Meanwhile, the iOS version is being renamed to Red’s First Flight, presumably to make it less likely to show up in searches for “Angry Birds.”
Unlike Rovio’s other Angry Birds titles, this re-release was not free to play, but cost $0.99 and did not contain microtransactions.
“We understand that this is sad news for many fans, as well as for the team that worked hard to make Rovio Classics: Angry Birds a reality,” the company wrote.
“We are extremely grateful to the Angry Birds fans who have shown their love for the brand and this game from the beginning. We hope those fans can continue to bring that passion to our live Angry Birds catapult games like Angry Birds 2, Angry Birds Friends and Angry Birds Journey, where our goal every day is to create the best possible experience for players.”

VGC reported that Rovio community manager Shawn Buckelew explained the company’s decision when responding to users on the game’s Discord server.
“As the statement says, this is negatively impacting our other games, and that is what we as a company need to focus on,” he wrote.
“If those other games don’t improve and grow, the prospects of the entire company change. It’s harder to make new games or work on new projects. I’m not sure you’d want that.”
The original Angry Birds, which first launched in 2009, was removed from app stores in 2019, with Rovio claiming it was “for testing purposes”.

Rovio recently announced that it was in preliminary talks to sell the company to one of several interested buyers, following Playtika’s announcement that it was trying to acquire the company. Time is strange. It’s been more than a decade since the original Angry Birds came out, launching a franchise that includes movies, board games, food, socks and all kinds of other merchandising. And now Rovio is bringing back the game that started it all.
In a new blog post, the developer has revealed that a brand new version of the original Angry Birds is in the works for mobile. If that doesn’t make any sense, it’s because most things don’t make any sense these days.
Basically, Rovio has to rebuild the original game from the ground up to make it work on modern devices. And it’s basing the rebuild on the 2012 version of the game, three years after it actually launched. This is all bizarrely Kafka-esque.
The good news is that this reboot, redux, retooling, whatever you want to call it, will be a premium game with no ads. Like the old days, when you could buy a game for 69 cents and have fun without worrying about being bombarded by ads every eight seconds.

Some changes are also added, with an easier way to place the birds in the catapult, zoom controls that prevent you from accidentally shooting, and cloud saves.
The new old Angry Birds is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2022, which isn’t that far in the future at all. One of these was the Classic Angry Birds title released in 2012. The updated name of the title is Rovio Classics: Angry Birds. It is a recreation of the original title. The game contains the original 8 episodes which contain more than 390-400 levels, similar to the original title. There’s a twist though, instead of the old proprietary game engine (which is what got it disabled). Rovio used Unity Engine to develop the game.
A new kick of the game is that there are no in-app purchases and advertisements in the game as users have to purchase the game license for 99 cents.

Rovio Classics: Angry Birds (aka “Red’s First Flight” on the App Store and “Project Classic22” in development)
On June 22, 2021, Rovio posted a blog on their website and a tweet announcing that they would be remaking some highly sought-after canceled Angry Birds games such as Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons in response to the infamous “#BringBack2012” -movement. in the Angry Birds community in which fans wanted to see a “return to form” for the series and for the removed older games to appear again in the app stores. Not many details were made clear about the project, and which games would be remade would remain unclear until November 23, when Rovio posted their first “Dev Diary” explaining that the company would release the original Angry Birds in the first quarter of 2022 will make again. and opened a Q&A on Twitter, allowing fans to ask questions about the project with the hashtag #BringBack2012. The fourth Dev Diary, released on March 2, 2022, retells the story of how Danger Above 8-3 was initially suggested by a fan named Ethan, and confirmed that Mighty Eagle would reappear in the remake.
On March 14, 2022, Rovio employees began publicly releasing information about that game via the Rovio Gaming Discord server. One of the reels on the server was titled “Rovio Classics: Angry Birds”.
On February 21, 2023, almost a year after the game’s release, Rovio announced on their Twitter account that the game will be pulled from the Google Play Store on February 23, 2023 due to the game’s impact on their broader games portfolio. However, the game remains on the App Store as Red’s First Flight
